West Springfield Mayor Calls for Transparency From Eversource, but Why Not Whip City Fiber?
[West Springfield] Recently, West Springfield’s Mayor, William Reichelt, submitted a resolution to the West Springfield Town Council seeking a full investigation into Eversource, a local utility company. This comes after West Springfield residents noticed an unexpected increase in their monthly utility bills. The intention of this investigation is to protect the financial health and well-being of West Springfield residents.
Increasing transparency in order to protect your residents is important for any government to do, but why hasn’t Whip City Fiber been held to this same standard? The West Springfield Town Council bonded over $13 million in order to build out Whip City Fiber. This amount of money bonded by the city should mean that they are being honest and transparent with their residents, but that is not the case. The only connection Whip City Fiber has made in the city is with a local non-profit; besides that, there has been no other news on how the project is going and when residents can be expected to be connected. Additionally, there have been no updates on where all the money bonded is going. In order to truly protect their residents' financial health and well-being, West Springfield should hold Whip City Fiber to be more accountable and transparent, like they are currently doing with Eversource.
